Lot of 4 rare John Sparks items. "Honest John" Sparks was the 10th governor of Nevada, serving 1903 till his death in 1908. 1) Three different cigar labels showing John Sparks on a horse. Titled "The Governor." Nice, vibrant colors. One appears to be an artists proof as it is signed and dated in the bottom right corner. Two measure 6 x 10" and the third if 4.5 x 4.5" Comes with photocopied photo showing Sparks on the horse. These labels are extra rare. According to FH, these labels were not present in the Sparks Archive at University of Nevada, Reno Special Collections. 2) Cabinet card of Nora Sparks, second wife of John Sparks, by photographer Hawes of Carson City. Nora was the sister of John's first wife Rachel who died shortly after they got married. Nora and John had three sons: Benton, Charles, and Leland. The governor's mansion was under construction during his term so she lived in their own home. (Sutro-Comstock Collection)
