Lot of 6. 1) Janesville, California. Located in Lassen County, California, 11 miles SE of Susanville. a) Two different Janesville Roller Mills billheads, 1891 and 1893. Toning. Both to JC Young. b) 1881 letterhead and cover. LN Breed, Groceries, Dry Goods, Boots & Shoes. Letter is addressed to a sister in Acushnet, MA. Cover has 1881 Janesville postmark. Toning and ink stains to cover and letter. In 1860, after the Battle of Pyramid Lake (also known as "The Ormsby Massacre"), settlers built a loopholed stockade for protection from an Indian attack that never materialized. The fort, Fort Janesville, which had a bastion, or block house, in its southwest angle, was less than a mile from the town of Janesville. 2) Loyalton, California. Located in Sierra County. Pictorial IOOF receipt for payment (1912). Also a 1918 typed letter from the San Francisco IOOF office regarding claims for brothers or sisters in the Military or Naval Service.
