Several years ago we sold a large collection of about 68 M.M. Fredrick silver pieces, mostly flatware, all marked as such. They included Gorham and Medallion patterns with some rare serving pieces. Since that time, our write-up circulated on the web extensively, and is easy to find.

Over the ensuing years, several other marked Virginia City pieces appeared. First, we were lucky and found two different pieces in a local collection of silver - a Nye & Co. piece and a new discovery piece of Eaves & Co. Up to that time, no Eaves & Co. pieces had been known to Nevada silver collectors, nor had any been seen on various internet silversmith sites.

A new collection has surfaced that had rare pieces from San Francisco and Virginia City - all 1860's except the early 1870's pieces in this and a similar lot.

This lot contains six forks. The Frederick mark here is different than the normal "M.M. Fredrick Virg. Nev." because it has a different style lettering and only has "NE." for Nevada. This is the fist time we've seen this marking. Curiously, it matches the marks on the Nye & Co. and Eaves pieces, which were predecessor companies to Fredrick, and probably had an employee in common, perhaps Fredrick himself. These six forks are Gorham pattern. These pieces appear to pre-date the previously known M.M. Fredrick pieces because they have the abbreviation of NE for Nevada in common, later clarified to NEV.
