Never offered by us before. Extra rare early Lake Tahoe advertising cover for the Moana Villa resort, located on Tahoe's West shore. R. Colwell, proprietor. 1905 postal cancel. Augustus Colwell bought land in the area and built a sawmill in 1867. In 1894, his eldest son, Ralph Lewis Colwell, built the Moana Villa resort. It consisted of a 2.5 story lodge, single room cottages and tents, and a clubhouse and pier. Colwell bought out his nearby competition at Rubicon Springs in 1909. Moana Villa was taken over by Frank Pomin in 1910 and bought by Carl Andrew Bechdoldt in 1925. In the early 1930s, it was purchased by David Chambers and incorporated into the Chambers Lodge property.
