This rare original photograph was taken by Gustave H. Schubert (photographer) at Nelson Point, CA. It measures: 5.75" x 8.5", on thick cardboard paper. It shows a winter scene, several men posing for the picture in the heavily snowed in camp, you can see 2 houses and more people and a small horse carriage in the background. Not dated. Gustave H. Schubert was also a prominent photographer in La Porte. In 1864 he gave out coupons for special offers on cabinet photos and large hand- colored portraits, took photos of main street La Porte and did portaits, even of himself. He operated a photography studio and variety store on Main street from 1880 to1900. [Ref.: ROTM by J.E. Garvis, pp. 70-71] Nelson Point is mentioned in the Feather River Bulletin from 15 Aug 1901, as a close location to a fatal mining accident in Feather River (4 miles south) and it is said to be 11 miles from Quincy. It includes 3x pages of receipts from the Nelson Point Lumber Company, all dated Oct 18, 1901 for good sold in Nelson Point, Plumas County, Ca. This Company was manufacturing " all Kinds of Domestic Lumber: Flooring, Ceiling Rustic etc". Garvis Collection. Nelson Point, Plumas County California
