Pictorial billhead for E McDonald, Harness and Saddlery, to the Homestake Mining Company. Deadwood, Dak., May 1, 1891. Vignette of saddle. McDonald came to Deadwood in 1879. In addition to being a successful Deadwood businessman, he also served five terms as fire chief for the Homestake Hose Company, helped organized and played on Deadwood's first baseball team, served as Lawrence County Sheriff (1892), served two terms as mayor of Deadwood (1902), and then later was the Deadwood postmaster until he died in 1922. Great piece from an important Deadwood pioneer!
