Rare corner advertising cover for J.M. Hetrich, Assayer in San Diego. Sent to Souther in San Francisco. 1890 San Diego cancel. No contents. FH notes this assayer would have handled Julian ores. Previous to this, he handled Comstock ores. According to the Official Register of the United States, Volume 1 (1881), Hetrich is listed as the assayer for the Carson City Mint! His brother Frank was also an assayer at the mint and served as the supt. from July 1873-Aug. 1874.
