April 8, 1879 manuscript cover ragged at right. Letter is from John to Anna and talks about her coming up on next stage. Also talks about Mr. Blake staying at his residence as he was badly burned and may have to go to Salt Lake City. The Silver City post office was open from 1871 to 1951. Silver City was a silver mining town approximately 90 miles south-southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah. Settlement began with the first mining strikes here in 1869. Jesse Knight, known as the "Mormon Wizard" for his ability to find ore easily, decided to build a smelter in Silver City because it had the flattest ground in all of the Tintic Mining District.
