This is folded orders from Rear Admiral David D. Porter to Lieutenant Commander E. K. Owen of the U.S. S. Louisville in the 6th District Mississippi Squadron. The letterhead is from the "Mississippi Squadron Flagship Black Hawk, Mound City, June 14th, 1864". The communication is easily read and the signature unmistakably Porter. 8 in. X 10 in. Some light foxing. There is a CDV of Rear Admiral Porter a well from Woodward & Rundel, 126 State St. Rochester, New York. The CDV is in very good condition. D.D. Porter would later become the Secretary of the Navy, and Superintendent of the Navy Academy. He came from a family of naval officers; his father captained a vessel during the Revolutionary War.
