An account of a WWI dogfight between the Red Baron (Baron von Richthofen) and British pilot Cyril Douglas Bennett, in which it's acknowledged that the Red Baron reported him killed, but he was alive. According to the 9.25" x 13" account, Cyril Bennett, lieutenant in the RAF, was brought down in his BE two-seater, wounded as the 20th victim of the Red Baron on Feb. 14, 1917. Contains von Richthofen's account that "...I approached within 50 yards of him without his noticing me and attacked immediately. After several hundred shots, the plane dashed down, falling into our trenches. The pilot was killed in the air..." Von Richthofen, whose method of attack was to pursue his adversary relentlessly to the ground, thought he had killed Bennett, who survived. ALS, "C.D. Bennett," one page, folded in quarters, Nov. 5, 1929, with accompanying envelope in his hand from Riga, Latvia, response to autograph request. [] [] [] [] []
