An account of Baron von Richthofen, the Red Baron's request for acknowledgement of his 64th victory. L.C.F. Clutterbuck, pilot of the 62nd Squadron, RAF was shot down March 18, 1918, by the infamous Red Baron, along with his observer and gunner, H.J. Sparks, in a Bristol fighter with a 12-cylinder, 200 H.P. Rolls Royce motor. Survived, but became a prisoner of war. ALS, "L. Clutterbuck," one page, Sept. 19, 1929, on personal letterhead "25 Craven Street,/London, W.C.2," 5" x 8", response to autograph request. Comes with typed passages from Floyd Gibbons' book "The Red Knight of Germany" describing both the Baron's and Clutterbuck's accounts of their aerial combat.
