Captain J.H. Hedley had just returned home from a lecture called "The Luckiest Man Alive," when he received correspondence requesting his autograph. Included in this lot is a letter dated 12/14/29, in reply to the request, ALS, "Captain J.H. Hedley/Late 20 Sqdn R.F.C.," boldly written, 7.25" x 10.5". According to correspondence, "J.H. Hedley DFC MC CedG./Captain 20th Squadron RAF/Great Britain-World War" was, "Shot down in flames as the 72nd victim of the German ace, Baron von Richthofen. Escaped Alive." Comes with original cover and a flyer for Captain Hedley's lecture, "In His Thrilling Lecture/'Rambling Through the Air." 9" x 12", illustration of Hedley, dog fighting planes and military ambulances, by J.H.H. with text, "Captain Hedley, three miles in the air, falls 300 feet from his plane, landing safely on tail of the same machine...," and, "Shot down in flames bye Baron von Richthofen the Red Knight of Germany."
