A handwritten letter written by the 80th, and last victim of Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron), over 50 years later. An account by D.G. Lewis of being shot down on April 20, 1918 and then finding out the very next day that the Red Baron had been shot down and killed, "...I was shot down by Germany's top-scoring Ace, Manfred Von Richthofen and thus became his 80th & final victim...," "The next day April 21st 1918 Von Richthofen himself met his death being shot down in his all red Fokker Triplane by, as we believed, Roy Brown." He closes with information on his capture, "I was a prisoner from April 20th to December 2nd 1918 after which I returned to my home..." ALS, "D.G. Lewis/10th April 1972./Greendale/Salisbury." 6.25" x 10", two pages, and a certificate of authenticity. [] [] [] [] []
