A collection of 15 postcards from the Red Star Line tourist steamer, c1900. Undated, but one postcard has drawings comparing the Red Star Line's steamer, "Vaderland 1900," to the "Santa Maria 1492." All but 4 are printed: "Lith O. De Rucker & Mendel, Bruxelles."
In 1871, the Red Star Line was founded as a joint venture between the International Navigation Company of Philadelphia, which also ran the American Line, and the Société Anonyme de Navigation Belgo-Américaine of Antwerp, Belgium. Antwerp in Belgium, Liverpool and Southampton in the United Kingdom and New York City and Philadelphia in the United States were the main ports of call. The company declared bankruptcy in 1934. It operated until 1935 when it ceased trading. Its assets were eventually sold to the Holland America Line. [ Pennsylvania 1900
