Reno, NV - $50 1902 Plain Back Fr. 682 The Reno NB Ch. # 8424 S/N 1276. Note Grades Fine. This is as the prior (3) notes, signed as President, by the legendary George Wingfield, who rose from dealing Faro at a Tonopah casino to the richest man in Nevada from 1902 to 1907. Long associated in business and politics with U.S. Senator George S. Nixon, Wingfield moved to Reno in 1908 and became active in banking, ranching, and hotel keeping. Although much of his fortune disappeared during the Great Depression, Wingfield remained a political power in Nevada for years thereafter. High denomination notes as is this $50.00 from this bank are scarce.
