The colors on this note are vivid and just “pop”. A great note from this state! Over printed signatures of H.H. Kennedy, cashier and George Wingfield, president. Condition: Very Fine+. Serial Number: 487. The Reno National Bank History: Originally organized as The Nixon National Bank Of Reno on October 20, 1906 by George S. Nixon. It was the largest of the national banks in the state with a paid up capital of $500,000. After Senator Nixon’s death in 1912, the bank’s control was sold to George Wingfield by Nixon’s widow. On August 2, 1915 the title was changed to The Reno National Bank. The last shipment of notes sent the bank was on November 22, 1932 and a total of notes outstanding November 28, 1932 was $665,000. Due to the Great Depression, the bank was placed into receivership on December 9, 1932. George Wingfield tried his best to keep Nevada afloat almost single handedly and lost everything! Wingfield made two efforts for assistance to A.P. Giannini’s Transamerica Corporation and to The First National Bank of San Francisco almost begging them for help. Wingfield at the time had mining interests, hotels, thirteen banks in nine towns and all banks were closed. Wingfield started over in Reno and became a millionaire again by the time he died in 1959.
