Edward Jackson to receive $24 for serving with Captain Wheelock. Wheelock had a company of Rangers. They were enlisted on May 8, 1836. They served until August 3, 1836. The town of Wheelock was named for E. L. R. Wheelock. Wheelock was a defender of Indian rights, Indian agent and lawyer. 1836 is the year Texas won independence from Mexico. The Republic of Texas inherited from the provisional and ad interim governments a debt estimated at $1.25 million. Postponement of the payment of the bulk of this debt was protracted over a period of eleven years, interest accumulating on it up to July 1, 1850.
