Issued for $72.00 for claims for beeves (beef, cattle) furnished General Somervell in 1842. Garza was an important person in San Antonio history. He was born in 1776 he San Antonio de Bejar, Texas. In 1818 he received permission from the Texas government to create the first Texas coin. His initials ‘JAG’ and the date are imprinted on the coin. He used the star symbol that is now so closely associated with the state. In 1824 he became one of the largest land owners in Bexar County. In 1832 he was elected Mayor of San Antonio. That year he signed the articles from the convention of 1832. Being Mexican, he was looked at with some displeasure during the 1836 revolution.
