Taylor received $43.33. We believe that he was part of the Caldwell Company Gonzalez Volunteers. It is the only Captain Caldwell we could find in this era. [Index to Military Rolls of the Republic of Texas 1835-1845]. The men under his command were paid November 16, 1840. He lead his company in the battle of Plum Creek. This battle was a skirmish between Texans and a large party of Comanche Indians. The Texans claimed victory as they killed 80 Comanche (only 12 bodies were ever found), but the Indians got away with a great number of stolen horses and mules.
