The gentlemen in this document were veterans of the Revolutionary War: Dr. Joseph Fiske Junior (1752-1837) was just 23 years old at the Battle of Lexington, but assisted his father in treating the wounded Minute Men. He was a second lieutenant in the Continental army from June 1 to Dec. 31, 1776; surgeon's mate June 1, 1777; surgeon Apr. 17, 1779, and served as such to the close of the war. He was present at the surrender of Burgoyne in 1777 and of Cornwallis in 1781. He was an early member of Massachusetts Medical Society. It is believed Joseph Smith was a member of Captain John Parker's Company of Minute Men. Nathan Fessenden was also a member of Captain Parker's Minute Men.
