Rickard Gold and Silver Mining Co. – Virginia Mining District, Storey County, N. T. – Certificate # 60 dated July 31st, 1863, for 25 shares made out to A. H. Berlin. Incorporated July 3, 1863, in Virginia City and capitalized at $140,000; 1400 shares at $100 per. Signed by president, A. H. L. Dick and secretary, M. BXXXX. Refers to claim names as Temple Ledge. Vignette of allegorical woman with a shield and spear at left and another of a dog guarding a safe at center bottom. An intricate purple overprint with the word, “RICKARD”. This may have been W. T. Rickard the famous assayer on the Comstock and who was briefly partnered with Conrad Wiegand and later S. M. Van Wyck in Gold Hill. Rickard opened an assay office later in Tucson, A.T. around 1879. Not listed in Holabird's Index, “McDonald's Mines of the West” or Ansari's Mines and Mills of the Comstock Region. Scarce Territorial. Printed by Enterprise Job Printing.
