Extra rare. For gold bullion deposit by C.T.H. Palmer (of Folsom) at the Riehn, Hemmer & Co. Assay Office located at 434 Montgomery Street. A 21 ounce gold bar worth $370. Folds, pinhole, some very light soiling. Printed by Sterett & Cubery. 5.25" x 10.75" August Hemme left New York for the Gold Rush and arrived in California in May 1849. He tried his luck as a miner in the Feather River, but soon realized he could be more successful in other industries and purchased large areas of farm land in San Ramon. In 1863, he left San Ramon and moved to San Francisco where he started his partnership with Charles Riehn. An ingot from this firm went up for auction in 2005.
