The Franklin Mint produced a series of fifty 51mm Sterling Silver rounds bearing images of birds by noted sculptor Gilroy Roberts, the ninth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint between 1948 and 1964, and the designer of the obverse of the Kennedy Half Dollar. The Franklin Mint offered Roberts Birds individually and in sets of five, each set given a Roman numeral from I to X. This is Series III, which includes the following medals: 11, Bald Eagle 12, Black Skimmer 13, Pileated Woodpecker 14, Nightingale 15, Avocet
Each 51mm round is 1000 grains of Sterling Silver with a mirror-like proof finish. A set of five rounds weighs 10.4 Troy ounces.
