This is a 1932 reprint of the 1850 Rocky Bar Mining Company, California; Circular, Articles of Association, resolutions, etc., 1850.Big Bar, along the middle fork of the American River about 70 miles from Sacramento. 4 7/8 x 8 1/4". softbound, 12pp, near mint, slight tear at top center through. Cover print was originally gold, now oxidized to a gold-brown. Cover was reportedly blue, now also oxidized to blue-gray.
Carl Wheat published a paper on the company in 1934, now available online. The work thoroughly discusses the Rocky Bar as a "Scheme" by New York investors, who probably had never been to California. The mines were of gold in quartz, making the suggestion that these mines were the first or among the first of all quartz mines in California (not true). They suggest milling equipment similar to that used in the Appalachian gold belt (Georgia, etc.)
Probably published shortly after July 29, 1850, the date of the last shareholder meeting notes in this work. Wheat notes he located a copy of their 1851 report. The original pamphlet is scarce and has been widely reprinted in ebook form. California
