Ronson lighter company began as The Art Metal Works in 1897 led by Hecht, Herzig, and Aronson. Louis V. Aronson's creativity produced a wide variety of products, including those using new plating techniques he developed. Aronson also invented a matchstick that used no white phosphorus, winning an international competition in doing so. The company had become known as Ronson by the 1970s, when it struggled with competition and portions of the company were sold off. Today in the United States, Ronson-branded lighters are made by Zippo. This chrome-plated lighter appears to be in new, unused condition in the original black and ivory-colored plastic container. The Adonis design strikes a spark and lights the wick in one motion without requiring a cover to be opened first. Releasing the lighter extinguishes the flame and covers the wick. See photo for condition and design details.
