Grout and St. Claire Photos, Silverton, Colo. printed on the smelter view. Set of 2: 1) View of the Ross Smelter in operation, Silverton, Colorado. Train cars at the left. Small rust spots near left edge. 2) The Ross Mining and Milling Co. Power House and Tram Terminal at the Champion Mine, Silverton. The Champion mine dates to 1885 and showed assays of 5.5% copper, 25 oz. silver and $10 gold per ton in 1908 (Copper Handbook). The reduction plant was also known as the Kendrick and Gelder smelter and was located 1,500 feet from the Champion mine. The smelter was served by the Denver and Rio Grande R.R. and the Silverton, Gladstone & Northern Railroad. 3) Old Hundred Mine and Mill Photo. Small piece missing at bottom left is not near the mine and mill. Photos measure 9.5” x 7.5”. Date: CO hwac 61704
