Uniface, “Denver/ Silver/ 1891”. 24mm, “P” on reverse; 2.7 grams, probably a quarter with polished/ground surfaces. There are at least three of these pieces known today, though this one may be the only one with a “P” on the reverse. In 1891, there were only three jewelers in Denver with the last name starting in P. They were William Plambeck, Hans Paul and John Polascha. Plambeck was the only one operating as a single entity. This piece clearly earmarks the 1891 “silver rush” in Colorado. It followed on the heels of the great Leadville discoveries and production, but came at a time when the Sherman Act doubled the silver purchases by the Government, which spurred more production. Leadville, Silver Cliff Creed and other mining camps boomed. -fh City: Denver State: Colorado, Date: 1891 Inventory# 41225
