Esmeralda MD. One of a handful of nicely colored Nevada stock certificates. The company incorporated on November 3, 1863 and the stock was sold in 1867 to George A. Clark. It was signed by Wm. W. Davis as secretary and A.S. Lotsfinch (?) as president. Unusual Yellow underprint. Millsite vignette. Agnew and Dieffenbach were the printers - who also printed a number of other Aurora mine certificates. There are several mysteries surrounding this company. The 1903 coins rubbed into the stock are cause for alarm. This has been seen on other ephemera, so it is probable it was added later. Aurora is in Nevada not California. But when the stock was issued originally in 1863 Aurora was thought to be in California. I could not find any mention of this mine anywhere. But that would not be the first time. This certificate was sold in 1867 for all of the shares. That again is not unusual. We had a stock certificate from the Comstock that mimicked this. It was a way for a new owner to take ownership of an existing mining company.
