This photograph shows a group of people posed for a photograph in the small town of Rubicon Springs. There appears to be a trench being built on the on the left side of the photograph. This trench could have been used for the construction of the Rubicon Springs Hotel. The construction was described as follows: "…eleven miles west of Lake Tahoe. Everything surrounding them partakes of the picturesque - the tall mountains covered with groves of pine and spruce and capped by old century cedars. Here and there are traces of the slow yet persistent slow glaciers of bygone days…the owner of this beautiful mountainous resort is erecting commodious accommodations for guests and visitors" (W. Anderson, 1892, p. 223-4). The photographer is identified as R.J. Waters, landscape photographer of Gold Hill, NV, who was active in the 1880s, but please note that he is listed in Berkeley on this card. This photograph was featured in the Lake Tahoe Series produced by Waters. The matte measures 8.5" x 5.25" and the photograph measures 7.60" x 4.5". There is some wear on the matte, but very little on the photograph. The photograph's focus is sharp and the contrast is medium to high.City: Lake TahoeCounty: El DoradoState: NVDate: c1890
