Striking illustration of an elk with antlers. Beautiful mountain landscape in the background. From Painting Copyrighted by Kaufmann & Strauss Co. NY. Printed in Germany. Broadside measures 15 1/2" x 19 1/2" in a 22 1/2" x 27" frame. The Rustaller Brewery was founded in 1881 by Captain Frank Ruhstaller at the age of 35. Ruhstaller was a Swiss marksman who also opened the City Brewery, which was the largest brewery west of the Mississippi. Sacramento, with fresh mountain water, locally grown hops and barley, and the invention of the refrigerated railcar, became the ideal location for brewing. Ruhstaller's son, Frank Jr., studied with his father and eventually took over Buffalo Brewery. Burt Collection [Ref:http://ruhstallerbeer.com/history/]
