Spinning wheel from the early 19th century. Appears to be complete. This attractive spinning wheel paints a striking example of why Sleeping Beauty couldn't stay away despite the warnings; gorgeous enough to be cursed for (spinning wheel curse not included).

From its inception in the medieval ages, the skill of spinning yarn has never been lost, and forms a modern day thread connecting us to our past. In a more modern sense, the fluctuations within the textile industry serve as a looking glass into several spheres of history from the evolution of fashion to the transition into industrialization.

"In the United States, the spinning wheel has long been recognized as a symbol of colonial domesticity. Many (but by no means all) early New England households included a spinning wheel in their furnishings. In the 18th and into the 19th century, homespun textiles were generally used for work clothing, bed and table linens, and children's garments. During periods of conflict with Great Britain, making and wearing homespun textiles (as opposed to buying imported cloth) was encouraged as an act of patriotism." The spinning wheel measures an overall height of 48" and a length of 49".
