Nice vignette of miner with a pick and another of a beehive. Orange RN-G1 printed 2c Internal Revenue stamp. Samuel T. (Thomas) Hauser was an early governor of Montana Territory. He was appointed by President grover Cleveland in 1885. In 1865 N. P. Langford assisted Hauser and William f. Sanders to establish a bank in virginia City, Montana Territory, under the firm name of S. T. Hauser & Co. Soon after Hauser organized a mining company and built the first smelter in the territory at Argensa, and the following year he organized the First National Bank of Helena and the St. Louis Mining Co. at Phillipsburg. His later activities included establishments of banks at Missoula, Butte, Fort Benton and Bozeman, the building of six branch railways and interest in numerous mining and smelting enterprises. Hauser was president of the first railway withing the limits of the Territory, the Utah & Northern.
