In 2014 the SSCA treasure recovery crew discovered the safe in the debris field. In previous years, it was thought the large square cornered item was another large trunk. But closer inspection revealed the rusty legs on one end, and the team knew they had found the cherished safe. This group has two business documents and a cover. The first is a shipping document for goods shipped on the SS George Law from New York to Aspinwall. While the manuscript portion is a bit washed out, it would have showed what was shipped at left, and exactly how the parcels or boxes were marked. The second piece is an internal letter which mentions the George Law, while most of the letter is illegible. The cover of the letter is present but any writing is illegible.
Purser Hullís safe contained documents from both William Hull, the purser, and his brother Ed Hull the storekeeper, who had also been a purser on several other ships from time to time, including the Illinois. Documents restored by Northeast Document Conservice at Andover. The dates here are obscured, but thought to be 1856-1857, the same date as the rest of the shipping documents from the safe.
