Unique! The only known letterhead from the assay office of Justh & Hunter located at 188 Montgomery St in San Francisco. Emanuel Justh was a former San Francisco branch mint employee, who formed an assaying partnership with Solomon Hunter in San Francisco in May 1855. Dated San Francisco Feby 27, 1858. Assayed for Col. Beverley C. Sanders a sample of sulphurat of Iron ("quartz tailings") and found to contain per ton: 109.95 ozs. 808 fine gold $1836.47; 109.95 ozs. 191 fine silver 27.21 totaling $1863.68. Signed C H. Riehn. Endorsed on the back C. H. Reihm's assay of sulphurats of Iron from R. Beasos (?) quart mine. Elegantly framed and matted in a 15 x 13 inch wooden frame, with both sides visible. In January, 2022, a Justh & Hunter ingot sold for $2.2 million. Franklin Collection
