Memorandum of Gold Bullion (No. 1920 ) deposited at the Branch Mint of the United States at San Francisco the 4th day of May 1860 by Wells Fargo & Co., C. T. H. Palmer. (Palmer was the Wells Fargo agent at Folsom). 11 x 4 inches, buff paper with red ink. This is the early US Mint form that contains the word "grains" pre-printed under the column
description of bullion" at left. Here, underneath that nomenclature, was written the word "bar" indicating that one ingot was deposited, here weighing 155.60 troy oz.
The wording of "grains" was soon dropped from the US Mint forms, as it was the norm at the start of the gold rush, but as more and more gold dust, nuggets and grains were melted into bullion, it became unecessary. San Francisco California Franklin Collection
