Sacramento Directory, 1853-1854, Published by Colville, Compiled by Morse. This is the second Sacramento Directory, and first by Colville. 5 x 9" format, 110 pp plus 14pp ads in the back. In this directory, advertisement pages are physically numbered. Bookplate of Fred Grumm inside front cover.. No fly page in rear, replacement boards without replacement ads on the boards. Seven copies found, including this copy. Wells Fargo ad, p 97, "gold dust bought and sold". Lerch was never able to locate a perfect copy for his collection. This was the only copy located by him since collecting in the mid-1960s. George Hearst listed, p38, wholesale merchants. LLoyd Tevis, real estate, p85. Haggin, attorney, p32. These three men became important business partners and amassed a fortune creating and running large scale mining companies. Tevis was also president of Wells Fargo. Stanford Bros. listed, but not Leland. Contents very fine.
