This is a rare unlisted (in Scott) olive brown RN-D4 revenue check for the Sacramento Mill. Dateline Virginia, Nevada, July 3rd, 1874. Issued to George Emmett (a hardware seller in Gold Hill) for $1,243. Signed by Bonanza King James G. Fair. Stamp is olive brown. Spindle cancel and paper remnants attached to reverse of check. Clean. The Sacramento Mill was a Silver City mill located in Gold Canyon above Johntown and below the Excelsior Mill. It dates to the early 1860s, first appearing on Bancroft's 1862 map. It processed Belcher ore in the mid-1860s and and by the early 1870s, it had 12 stamps and a 25-ton capacity and was idle. [Ref: Ansari] Date: 1874 Location: Virginia City, Nevada HWAC# 57605
