Lot of 3. 1) Stock certificate issued Feb. 7, 1883 to F.A. Schroder for 100 shares. Signed by the company president and secretary. President signature is cut off and the certificate is pen cancelled. Printed by Bosqui Eng. & Pr. Co. Folds, some toning. 2) Two different Wells Fargo covers addressed to the Safety Nitro Powder Co. located at 430 California St., San Francisco. The Safety Nitro Powder Co. was incorporated in 1881 with well-known mining figure Coll Deane behind it. The company's chief product was safety nitro powder, a compound of nitro-glycerin and nitro-dextine, which was stronger, safer, and with less fumes than other explosive powders. The company manufactured about 20,000 pounds daily at a 300 acre property across the San Francisco Bay at Point Conchal (now known as Point Pinole). When an explosion occurred at the Giant Powder factory in Fleming Point in 1892, Giant & Safety consolidated and everything was sold under the Giant name.
