Lot of 2. William Stark Rosencrans, a Union Army Major General, developed a patented fuse cutter and in 1875 formed the Safety Powder Company in Los Angeles. They manufactured blasting powder for mining operations. Rosencrans was also a diplomat and a Congressman. In the Civil War, he commanded the huge Army of the Potomac. He was also one of the incorporators of the Southern Pacific Railroad. 1) Very rare stock for the Safety Powder Company. No. 112, issued for 170 shares to William Crosby in 1882 in San Francisco. Signed by WS Rosencrans as president and C. Rosencrans as secretary. Not cancelled. Lower right corner missing. 2) CDV of Rosencrans as a Civil War Major General.
