A stock certificate for 100 shares in the Saline Valley Salt Company, made out to John Hartman in 1904. No. 1566 issued. The Saline Valley Salt Company operated from the 1910s to the 1930s, mining and transporting the exceptionally pure natural salt found in the Saline Valley just northwest of Death Valley, until the costs of operating the tram that transported the salt proved too high. The certificate is signed by the secretary and president of the company with an embossed seal. It has an excellent vignette picturing salt piles on the valley floor. Generally good condition besides some toning.
