With the bankruptcy of Union Pacific in 1893 and in limbo until 1898 there was an opening for a RR through the Utah and the Mojave. Under Senator William Andrews Clark the initial San Lake Route : San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake RR Co. formed opening in 1905 until 1916 creating the "Los Angeles Limited" prestigious passenger train. In 1916 management shortened the name to : Los Angeles & Salt Lake RR Co. and in 1921 it was sold to Union Pacific that kept the name until 1988 when it became fully absorbed into UP.
