Number 64 for 500 shares to William Potter. Signed by secretary HB Carpenter and president GA Benson. Writing in top border in ink. Seems to be authentic to certificate. Small holes where the stamp was applied. Two vertical folds. No edge issues or discoloration. Vignette of mining on left side. Rare North Carolina Mining Stock Certificate. In 1892 the Railway News reported." The Sam Christian Gold Mining Company has reports from the mine that ore carrying sulphurets has been cut in the new workings. The sulphurets when cleaned from the rock assay 1 oz gold per ton which is just the value of the concentrates produced by the Haile Gold Mine a neighbouring property where the chlorination process is being successfully carried out on the centrates at a cost of about 16s. 8d. per ton. Whether the Sam Christian strike carries free gold in addition, like the Haile ore which yields about 1 1/2 dwt. per ton by the coppers, is not reported, nor is the percentage of sulphurets in the ore, so that whether the discovery is a payable one cannot be known yet." A four pound nugget was found here and used to promote mining along the Southern Railway. (Al Adams Gold Rush Memorabilia Collection) Date: 1880 Location: Montgomery County, North Carolina HWAC# 57346
