Sam Patch waqs perhaps the first professional "jumper." He made a living for a short while in 1829 jumping off of waterfalls, until the inevitable- was killed when he laned badly in a jump off Genessee Falls. Patch has practiced in New jersey jumpimg off Passaic Falls, and jumped the Niagra Falls in front of a great crowd. But in November, 1829, he made his last jump. Interestingly, another man pretended to b Sam Patch for anpother decade, but he was an imposter. They wrote a play including him, "our American Cousin", a comedy, which was the paly that Lincoln was watching when he was assasinated.
