"Mission Route." Nice pictorial pass featuring vignettes of two missions (San Jose and Concepcion). No. 1536, issued for 1896 to A.J. Welch, (Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway). Printed signature of the general manager. Endorsed by Welch. Printed on gray cardstock with ornate logo. Toning, especially around the edges. The San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway began operation in Texas in 1886. Uriah Lott and businessmen of San Antonio built it as a direct route from the city to Aransas Bay on the Texas Gulf coast. Absorbed by Southern Pacific.
