This is a very rare mine to be seeing assay results for! Dated Jan. 24th, 1871. Ore samples from the Star of the West Mine yielded over $220 oz. of silver with a trace of gold. Signed by John Hewston Chemist and Superintendent. Deposit by the Mineral Hill Mining Company. Folds, glue residue on reverse and wear along top edge. The Mineral Hill Mining Company was organized by William Lent & George Roberts of San Francisco in 1870. The deposits at Mineral Hill (including Star of the West) had only been discovered in 1869 by prospectors John Spencer and Amos Plummer. Mineral Hill experienced a boom in summer and fall of 1870.
