The office still has the same partnership as before (Garnett & Hewston). This lot has two pieces. The first is a letter from the San Francisco Assaying and Refining Works datelined San Francisco, Jan. 23, 1871 to the Mineral Hill Mining Co. Two samples have been assayed of "Great Republic" ore from the mine and mill. The mill sample included 129.65 ozs. silver. The mine sample incl. 123.52 oz. silver. Signed by John Hewston Jr. as chemist & supt. Also included is a follow-up letter on Mineral Hill Co. letterhead forwarding the assay results to Joseph Roberts Jr., agent for the company. Letter is signed by F.W. Redfield for William Willis, company secretary. Both letters have glue residue on the reverse indicating removal from album.
