No. 4129 in 1868 submitted by Muller & Brentano. The weight before melting was 260.03 ounces and after melting 249.05 ounces. It had a fineness of 858 1/2. There is no signature. Measures 12” x 5 1/2”, has several creases and is in good condition. San Francisco Assaying and Refining Works was an important company that was the successor to a long line of important assayers operating in the same assay house or business. It succeeded Kellogg, Hewston & Co, who in turn succeeded Kellogg & Humbert, who succeed Kellogg & Richter etc. The vignette on this assay receipt is identical to the one shown on the Kellogg & Hewston and Kellogg & Humbert receipts.
