Lot of 13. 9 chromolithos, 3 B&W photos and 1 leather post card in collection, all c. 1909-1910; The Portola Festival of 1909 honors the Spanish explorer Don Gaspar de Portola who "discovered" the San Francisco Bay in 1769 and was a way for San Francisco to celebrate its "rebirth" following the devastation of the 1906 earthquake & fires. Admission Day of 1910 celebrated the 60th anniversary of California becoming the 31st state admitted to the Union; Of special interest is the faded leather postcard with the insignia NSGW within a flag border on the front. The Native Sons of the Golden West, founded in 1875 to honor the men & women of the gold rush days, was an organization deeply involved in both the 1909 & 1910 festivals.
