Semicentennial anniversary of the discovery of gold in California issued in celebration of the city’s Golden Jubilee. The obverse design of three miners was adapted from an illustration used by the San Francisco Chronicle’s coverage of the January 23, 1898 event. The reverse celebration the changes in transportation over the past 50 years. Looped as were all examples. Struck by Schwaab Stamp & Seal. 34.95mm. Gold-plated brass. Hibler & Kappen 642 Unc with nearly intact gold plating.
