A rich vein of gold ore was discovered int he Little Ida which assayed at $1500 to $2500 a ton. Four months later the mine had produced $250,000. Thomas Meade Brown was admitted to the bar at 18. He fought in the Civil War and became a Arkansas State Supreme Court Justice. He was governor of Idaho in 1871. He was said to be lucky in poker, which is where he won the ownership of this mine.
